After five years, hundreds of sales and thousands of phone calls and email requests, www.rallyretro.com is hitting new heights as it celebrates its fifth birthday. Just to keep you updated, to celebrate this there will be big changes to the website in the coming months with a revamped site, a fresh and exciting new layout, added functions and more importantly, coverage of a much larger range of events (Irish National, British and WRC). To date there has been only two major batch uploads, an initial one of 11,000 images and then throughout the ensuing two years there were an additional 8,000 photographs uploaded, bringing the total to almost 20,000 images, accessible online. With an ever-expanding archive of now 400,000+ images (including over 200,000 scanned so far!) the number of images that can be posted on the site is increasing dramatically. When the new website has been launched, there will be more regular, smaller uploads happening, potentially bringing the total online number of images to 50,000 within the next year! From a purely personal point of view, Rallyretro.com is merely a hobby for me, it is not something I make much money from, nor is it something I can dedicate much time to due to my other work commitments, and it will take many years to recoup the investment I've made in it. Another thing I can confidently say is that the Rallyretro archive would not be where it is today without the invaluable and untiring support and hard work of Kevin O Driscoll who, not content with using one scanner in his spare time, now often has two scanners running side-by-side simultaneously. He has single handedly and voluntarily sorted, scanned, digitized, captioned and handled about 95% of the so far scanned material, and for that I am hugely indebted to him. If you have any suggestions or comments that I can take on board when designing the new site, don't hesitate to email me fergus@rallyretro.com |
